Cambridge, 29 March 2004 - Quotient Diagnostics,
an early-stage company developing point-of-care diabetes testing
equipment, took the top prize of £5,000 in the Enterprise
Launch Pad competition, which reached its finale at the 6th Cambridge
Enterprise Conference on Friday March 26.
London-based Quotient won the delegate vote for best new business
among the ten finalists selected from nearly 100 entries.
'It's a great boost to be the winner of the Enterprise Launch Pad
award,'
said Simon Harris, Commercial Director of Quotient. 'The Conference
is
great for networking and we have made many new friends and re-connected
with some old ones.'
Companies exhibiting at Deal Day presented a wide range of technologies,
from microsatellite launching systems to software targeted at the
film industry. Finalists included four Cambridge companies, 1-Take
Systems Ltd, Datanomic, Liquid Drop and Quantel Frequency Standards
Ltd. Other finalists came from around the UK, and included Cleanicepig
from Oxon, Ixaris Systems Ltd from London, and Lightweight Medical
Ltd from Edinburgh.
'We had more than 400 delegates registered for CEC6 and 46 speakers,'
commented Conference co-founder Christopher Saunders. 'There have
been some excellent presentations and, once again, top quality
networking.'
About the Conference: The Cambridge Enterprise Conference is a
non-profit event that provides a community for practitioners and
experts from around the world to discuss and debate how to enhance
and encourage enterprise. The 2004 conference was the sixth, and
was held from March 24-26 at Churchill College, Cambridge, UK.
Conference sessions focused discussions on the issues that face
technology entrepreneurs, and this year the Conference introduced
master classes to take an in-depth look at some key areas. The
ten finalists in the Enterprise Launch Pad competition pitched
to delegates during conference sessions on March 25th. Deal Day,
running throughout the second day of the main Conference on March
26th, featured the top 65 entries in the Enterprise Launch Pad
competition.
